I'm new to the GPU thing, wondering myself about how GPU usage works. If I use my GPU for an LLM like Olama, can it display graphics as well? I have a low-ish end card and onboard graphics. The only reason I need the graphics card is for one game.

I'm considering transcoding a ton of video files to an iTunes/iPhone friendly, lower resolution format to save space and wondering about how that works when it's using the GPU.

i think you should not put AI LLM load on your GPU if you want to transcode video at the same time.

I have a N100 intel CPU for media playback and the on-chip GPU is quite capable for such a small CPU. It can transcode most Codecs and does hardly break a sweat for one transcoding stream. It also does not transcode constantly but works on a block, saves it to be streamed next and then works on the next block. at least with Jellyfin.

Not sure if Plex is really worth the money, but i love my Jellyfin server. =)

I use Plex Media Server, and I bought a lifetime Plex Pass for about $80 6+ years ago. I feel like it has been worth it and I've gotten my money's worth with it. Hardware transcoding has helped sometimes (particularly with the Watch Together feature which I've used - but they've since removed that feature), I regularly use the DVR functionality to record some broadcast TV shows, and I like the feature to skip intros when watching TV shows.

I remember the moment i decided against Plex some years ago. I was curious and about to test Plex and the moment i was asked to create an account that was it for me. I'm sure Plex is powerful, but i just did not start with it. And now i permanently live in the Jellyfin universe =)

I'm curious what you see as a problem with creating an account?

It just did not feel as i would have full control over who sees my vacation videos. I don't want to sign in somewhere else to watch my own stuff.
if it was just a local account then i misunderstood the concept of having this account. I need to have 100% control over a media server. When i have to be afraid that it might does phone home with usage- and meta-data i do not use it.
Jellyfin is open source, Plex is closed source.

By default, with Plex, only you have access to watch your videos. You can give permission to other users with a Plex account to get access to watch your videos, but without that, nobody else has permission to view your stuff.

A couple times, when traveling, I've brought one of my streaming devices with the Plex client app installed (which I've already logged into) and plugged it into hotel TVs (using hotel wifi) and I haven't had a problem watching my content remotely.
