Just FYI, the toxicity is just too much here so I'm going to remove it from my board. The amount of ignorant flame posts and obvious trolls is just something I personally need to walk away from.

Nothing personal with you, you seem like a good guy, but... you know.

For those on here who were cool, who were civil (well until reacting to certain folks but I can see the temptation... I certainly had that too), who I know and talk to on other nets and boards, I'll see you guys over on those.

I am deleting everything DoveNet related after this post so won't see any responses from anyone... especially the Trolls (sorry, no satisfaction for you).

And here is one of the problems generated by modern social media. People have been conditioned to exist only in places that conform to their ways and have absolutely no capability of existing in a space in which a tiny little divergence of opinions exist.

Then we act surprised when those same people don't want to deal with uncle Jack for having a different opinion or something.

The main issue I have with this phenomenom is that people who cannot coexist with others due to differences in ideology is bount to attempt to exterminate their opposition as a matter of survival, since they cannot exist in places in which different opinions than theirs exist.

I think you're missing the point of his farewell. It's not differing
opinions, it's the confrontational, disrespectful manner in which some
people express themselves.

I would love a place where I could debate politics with people from all

Personally I remember this behavior starting with people slightly younger than me, and always left/democrat leaning. I never saw this from either side of people older than me. But the older teens when I was around 20/21 are who I heard broad generalizations of "Oh you like this one particular thing? Then you must be a NAZI!@^#%" etc. Not surprisingly, it eventually lead us to "cancel culture".

She agrees that it's never been THIS devisive. There have been small-ish, vocal groups in the past that held the "If you're not with us, you're against us" mentality, but never anything like what we have now.

I feel like things have gotten very divisive in the US since around 2000, when George W. Bush was elected. At the time, I remember there being a lot of people upset that Al Gore won the popular vote but George W. Bush won due to the electoral college.

It's not that I can't handle Dovenet, its just I have jerk fatigue. I thought it was nice being back in BBS-land going through forums, people being civil, talking about their interests, learning new things, it being just a nice pleasant change from the social media I left years ago. But here, in this forum, people are just being complete dicks. Why? What do they get out of it besides just the joy of being an asshole? There is all this talk about accepting differences of opinion, but is it though? You say something and then the same people just do the tired ad-hominem attacks, tell people how stupid they are, how their group/orientation is stupid, etc etc. It's just so juvenile. If you don't agree, make your points, make your statements, be open minded. Do you see that happening here? I sure as hell don't. You say just about anything and 99.9% of the time you get guys like MRO just flaming non stop. What's the point in that besides to just be a jerk and a bully and then when someone points it out or gets upset about it then they have "hurt feelings", or are "sensitive", or "thin skinned", or "can't handle it".

Just call it out for what it is... assholes being assholes. It's draining.

Deleted it off the board, but I'm here on $20 for Beers catching up. Had a chat with several SysOps on the matter and decided not to just ditch it completely as far as reading and posting because it would suck if more people did exactly what I did and left because of some of the people on here. They kind of "win" in that regard right? So, came back to deal with the repercussions of my post, get past that, and hopefully have some good conversations with the people who are on here who are actually good natured, civil, and don't want to just shit on everyone.

It was recommended I make use of the Twit filter like others have done, but I'm not going to do that. I now want to see it all.

It's not that I can't handle Dovenet, its just I have jerk fatigue. I thought it was nice being back in BBS-land going through forums, people being civil, talking about their interests, learning new things, it being just a nice pleasant change from the social media I left years ago. But

I was running a BBS from 87 to 88, I remember the flame wars in the BBS forums, nothing really has changed.
I then Ran another BBS from 92 - 97 and was part of Beehivenet, same thing there were the flame wars and abusive people on the message bases then as well.
In general people are people, you can't be so thin skined and expect everyone to act civil, that will never happen.
