• Regular Users (Non-Sysop)

What methods do you guys use to get regular "non-sysop" users to join your BBSes and keep them? I was surprised when I tried advertising a few times on Facebook, to almost 700 "friends" of mine, and ZERO has come by! Granted I haven't advertised on BBSes or BBS type forums yet, but how do you get people who are not already involved in the BBS world to give it a try? Should I even bother trying to engage those folks?

Based on the fact that the way I access these machines I know regular
people won't fire up any type of interface that isn't browser based.
    It is an interesting situation.
Big sites like Facebook and Twitter have done great things when it comes
to social causes in general to make the world a better place.
On the personal / family end not so much. Too many times world war iii
started and ended over night and I never knew it.
Giving everyone in the world a mouth piece that is connected to the
internet so that they can say anything they want and tons of people can
see it isn't always the best thing.

One day, I plan to implement a much better browser interface. I got a great idea for it, I think. The way I get regular users, is to chat with people who are into retro-computers, and make friends with them. I am more of a friend to any of my users than a Sysop. So I visit chat's with a retro nature to them. Then, I just become friends with them. Usually, someone will check out the board. I seem to get a few real users and keep them coming back, when I go scouting. What I mean is by looking for users lol. In the BBS scene, there are always going to be Sysops who visit other boards. Shoot, it's our hobby, so I go to other boards. I end up being a real user as much as I am a Sysop.

    TThat's great!

The hard thing in my case is finding a way of interacting with people in
a way I can memorize keystrokes to do things.
Working the standard bbs editor wasn't so easy for me to figure out so I
have learned that using Nano with the Multimail offline reader works
    best for me.
I have tried to use the ddmesg reader I think it is to write messages
and I can't seem to figure out the exact keystrokes every time to quote
a message before I write my reply.
Its something like control k control a and then enter or something like
    that, but I always forget.

In slyedit, it's control q, sir. It's my favorite editor, I don't hate if people don't quote everything. I know on Dove-net they make a big deal out of it. I do have one board, that hasn't made a single post I don't think. lol

The name the board uses to sign on to get the quick packet's is geo. I don't think he has posted. Slyedit, has all kinds of options as well, even spell check.
