• Weekend Plans

From Khronos@CWSHACK to All on Friday, April 17, 2026 13:06:00
Anyone got any plans for the weekend?
I have a lunch meeting tomorrow, but other than that not much going on
    around here.
If I can manage to find my sd cards maybe I'll mess around with my
raspberry pi 3b I have here.

I'm not 100 percent sure. I know I'll be modding my bbs. My sister just passed away, so we might have a get-to-gather, for her.

I got several PIs and love them. Currently using one for home assistant and the other has several docker containers running. They also assist with my cloudflare tunnels. What plans do you have with yours?

Hmm, learning docker is something I should really do with mine.
    Might be an interesting idea.
Other than starting with a basic Raspbian image I'm not sure what to
    really do with it yet.

apt install docker, docker-compose, and Portainer. Portainer gives you a good gui to see and manage containers. If your feeling frisky, you can install Proxmox on the PI as a hypervisor and run LXC style containers within it.

Remember when we installed Synchronet, in a docker on my pc? It worked out of the box, but I couldn't mod it.

How powerful are PIs? Like, what kind of hardware comes with them?
  • From Morningstarr to Khronos on Saturday, April 18, 2026 11:29:35

Do ya like linux better than windows? I was playing around with dosbox-x and ran windows 3.1. Man it brought back memories, it wasn't that bad of a gui. It was pretty darn plain though. I think mac os was better than windows 3.1. Too bad it never gained market share. Now that Windows has market share, it's hard to find good software for linux. Mac and linux have some great software, just not as much.

Yeah dude it sucks bad. The bad part is that we were really close, up until about early March. She really hurt my feelings, and we kind of stopped talking.

I don't know what the new ones I have.
I have one that's like 5 years old or so.
It has 1 gig ram, 100 mbps network card, 2.4 ghz wifi 4 usb a ports, 1
hdmi, 1 1/8 inch headphone jack and micro usb input for power.
You will want to use a 3a power brick to power it.

Most things I use Linux because it runs faster on the older hardware I
    have here.
I also use it because I prefer the command line.
I do yuse Windows for things that I can't get working under Linux
    though.
I am pretty much a right tool for the job type of guy. Use Linux when I
am able and what ever needs to be used when it isn't an option.
I have also started to dig a bit into the BSD land of os's over the last
    year or so.
NetBSD and FreeBSD are what I have been working with lately.
FReeBSD has the most documentation, but NetBSD runs on any piece of hardwareyou throw at it.

Fuck man... Ending things on a bad note is not good at all.
In my life experience I have kind of had to be a big brother figure to
my close friends when it comes to hard stuff because both of my parents
were gone by the time I was 14.
Another thing I learned is that when you get the chance to see someone
you haven't seen in a long time unless the sky is falling in, you better
take it because you don't really know what you will learn / need to do.
I missed this one when I was 28 with a friend and he died just as I was
going to plan a coffee shop meeting with him.
He got off the train 5 minutes from my house every week, but we never
    firmed up plans.
From that experience on when I am offered a meeting with someone I have learned to take it even if it might reck some plans that can be
    rescheduled.

I moved back in town to help her around the house and help her pay bills. She was married to a pos, that she had kicked out. I left a lot of things behind, just to help her. He came in the house and took their kids without permission. I listen to her cry for a weeks straight. She finally got a hold of him on cell. She had him on speaker, he was telling her he wished she would go ahead and die....I over heard it, this is after my sister told me, she didn't want him back in the house....I chimed in so he could hear it..I said dude you come back over here I am going to have to FUCK you up....Well a few days later, she let him back in. I had no clue, I was working. I came home from work to find him walking in the door of the house....I sat there for a minute and was like dang man, I have to keep my word. So I bolted in the house and proceeded to lay waist to him. Well after I messed him up, she made me move out...took his side. So yeah I had an issue with it..

I know you knew this was coming, and regardless of your relationship with her, I am very sorry you lost your sister. I hope you can remember the good times you had with her.

We used to be really close. I always protected her, whooped a bunch of dudes asses, to protect her. I'm not talking about a couple of guys in a little tussle. I'm talking about more than twenty and their assumed outcome, didn't play in their favor. I messed them up bad. It was right at the end, when she started drinking things went south.
  • From Will-E to Morningstarr on Saturday, April 18, 2026 17:34:52
You use them for opening web ports up to the internet without the need for port forwarding. It only works with http and https that I am aware of tho.

What is a cloudfare tunnel, what do you use them for?

Ahh I'm a newb. After all these years of tinkering on computers, I realize one thing....I know nothing.
  • From Will-E to Morningstarr on Saturday, April 18, 2026 17:41:46
you got to do more tinkering :D
  • From Morningstarr to Will-E on Saturday, April 18, 2026 17:43:50

The more I tinker with stuff, the more I break things! lol I'm not that smart so, when I break something...It gets REALLY broken. Sometimes it takes months to figure out and fix. Remember the ssl?

The best way to learn is by making mistakes. Don't be so hard on yourself :)

Dude, if you only knew what my brain told me all day..It would drive you mad. My brain tells me I am stupid, and all kinds of negative things. The medicine I take doesn't work either.
