I just read how to do it. I 'think' I can actually host it as a fido-style too.

Do you know who assigns node #'s? I'm pretty sure you can't just make
one up but I have no idea.

As far as I know there isn't an authority on network numbers for FTN's.
You will want to have your own domain that you can create a couple of
dns zones in to so that your nodes can find each other with out having
    to always use a nodelist.
Older systems may require a nodelist so managing one might be a good
idea, but fidonet doesn't require one to operate.

One of the main differences I see from a feature set of FTN's vs qwk is
that you have the ability to setup more than one FTN connection to the
    network.
You would do this to make sure that you receive all messages from the
    network.
Outbound messaging you are sort of limited to sending the outbound
    Echomail to your hub.
Netmail you can send direct between systems.

I already have a schema for my network, I just need to finalize what
the network will actually be like. _________

Another thing is depending on how you want to build out when you are
small you have a single hub that connects to all the nodes.
Once you bring on more systems you go to a multi hub network where hubs
talk to hubs and nodes talk to individual hubs.

I guess it would depend on how big hobby-space got ya know? If it got big we will use multiple nodes.

I guess it would depend on how big hobby-space got ya know? If it got big we will use multiple nodes.

    The structure is Zone:Net/Node.Point.

Zone would be the address for Hobby-Space, Net would be a logical sub division (could all just be the one net for a smaller message network, could be more to subdivide message routing in a bigger network) with node being any given individual BBS in and of itself, and points being a special case of individual users with special FTN needs, or so I understnad it to broadly be.

There is also an optional but at this stage I believe standardized @domain ending line, I guess for the purpose of separating networks that may use identical numbering for whatever reason.

I'm thinking 901 for my upcoming network, fitting with the area code theme that MicroNet and HobbyNet use.

I wish all bbs software supported qwk networks. It seems to be the easiest, to setup. So what is your message network going to be about? I will definitely join, because I love posting messages, and I need the practice lol.

The main one would be general messaging. FTN would make it easy to run multiple specialty networks (not that you can't with QWK but it's an agreed upon hack job) so that is kind of a bonus to me doing some side things down the line. Revertive Pulse is a whole damned communications platform, after all. :D _________

I think you meant hubs instead of nodes.
Each system in the network that is a member system is a node.
Hubs are systems that route traffic between hubs or the main hub for the network in general if there is just one hub and all other systems are
    nodes.

I got the two mixed up hahaha. Well that goes to show you how much I know about fido-net style networks. Imagine if I would have made the same mistake on Dove-net? haha
